Applications are now available for the 2024 AADOCR Delta Dental Institute Oral Health Equity Research Award 

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, August 11, 2023 – The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) and the Delta Dental Institute (DDI) are now accepting applications for the second annual AADOCR DDI Oral Health Equity Research Award. This award supports research that advances recommendations for greater oral health equity in populations that lack access to dental care or improves oral health literacy for underserved populations. Two awards will be conferred — one in each research area in the amount US$25,000.

Submissions must represent original research that addresses Social Determinants of Health and oral health disparities, and promotes oral health equity in the areas of Access to Care or Oral Health Literacy. Populations of interest include those from historically underrepresented groups, including racial and ethnic minorities, age groups, and hard-to-reach populations, e.g., adolescents, tribal, and rural communities.

Award prize:

  • Two awards will be conferred in each research area in the amount of US$25,000

  • Applications closed: October 17, 2023

Eligibility:

  • All candidates must be a member of, or at the time of submission, made a bona fide application to the AADOCR
  • Candidates must hold a DDS/DMD and/or PhD; or equivalent advanced degree

The two awards will be conferred in the form of unrestricted research grants. Award winners will be announced at the 102nd General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, the 53rd annual meeting of the AADOCR, and the 48th annual meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR), March 13-16, 2024, in New Orleans.

 

2023 Inaugural AADOCR DDI Oral Health Equity Research Award recipients 

Earlier this year, AADOCR and DDI announced the inaugural recipients of the AADOCR DDI Oral Health Equity Research Award. We are proud to name Astha Singhal, PhD, Boston University Assistant Professor of Health Policy & Health Services Research and the team of Cameron Randall, PhD, University of Washington Assistant Professor, Oral Health Sciences, and Tamanna Tiwari, BDS, MDS, MPH, University of Colorado Assistant Professor of Community Dentistry & Population Health.

  • Access & Equity Award: Dr. Singhal will conduct research centered on Medicaid adult dental benefits and racial/ethnic disparities in access to dental care among low-income women during pregnancy and postpartum periods.
  • Oral Health Literacy Award: Drs. Randall and Tiwari will jointly pursue research identifying the relationships between acculturation, oral health literacy, and health behaviors in Hispanic parents.
